Sixteen Seasons, No 4-0

Jonathan has never started a season 4-0. Standing between him and the first one: the manager who leads their series 13-9, has won three of the last five, and has scored 64 and 61 in consecutive weeks. Marcus Tally on the Week 4 slate.

Jonathan is 3-0 for the fourth time in sixteen seasons, and on each of the previous three occasions — 2012, 2016, 2021 — he lost in Week 4. No manager in the league has started 3-0 more often without once reaching 4-0. His Week 4 opponent is Anthony, who leads the all-time series 13-9, has won three of their last five meetings (2024 by 33.40, 2022 by 28.46, 2020 by 45.16), and is coming off the tenth- and eleventh-lowest scores of his 249-game career in consecutive weeks. The matchup pits the Magic Castle’s top scorer — Jonathan’s 385.66 points lead the conference, though Timothy and Sean have more — against the league’s sharpest decline: Anthony’s best-lineup market value has fallen from first in the league after the draft to eighth, a drop of 7,494 in three weeks. As of Thursday morning his tight end slot is empty; he has Tyler Higbee, claimed Tuesday, and Dallas Goedert, doubtful, on the roster. Jonathan starts C.J. Stroud, signed at 10:00 this morning, with Jayden Daniels upgraded to questionable and Travis Etienne out.

The slate

Michael (2-1) vs. Kevin (2-1). Michael has scored 404.96 points, the most in the league, on consecutive weeks of 156.48 and 149.14 — the second- and sixth-best games of his career. Kevin has scored 309.50, ninth, and the market ranks his starting lineup twelfth of fourteen by value. Michael leads the series 9-6. Jaylen Warren and Harold Fannin play tonight.

mike (0-3) vs. Timothy (3-0). The one series in the league where the winless manager owns the unbeaten one: mike leads 10-7. Timothy’s 173.34 last week was the fifteenth-highest score in league history. mike cycled through four quarterbacks last week alone and has settled, for now, on Matthew Stafford; he also claimed Ollie Gordon and Chris Bell on Tuesday. Bucky Irving is questionable. An 0-4 start would be mike’s fourth — 2012, 2015, 2021 — the most of any manager.

Josh (1-2) vs. Sean (3-0). The series is 7-7 after fourteen meetings. Josh’s Week 3 win was his first of the year; De’Von Achane is on injured reserve and was still in Josh’s starting lineup Thursday morning, with Ladd McConkey questionable. Sean has scored 389.76, fourth in the league, and Brock Purdy produced 33.28 in his first start. Keaton Mitchell is questionable; Chris Olave plays Monday.

Nick (0-3) vs. Owen (1-2). Nick leads 8-3 and has outscored Owen by 99.78 this season while winning one game fewer. He starts Kyler Murray at quarterback over Jared Goff, who has given him 14.44, 23.78 and 17.36. Owen’s tight end slot is empty with Pat Freiermuth, his only tight end, playing tonight in Cleveland; Nico Collins and Zay Flowers are both questionable for the second straight week. Nick has never started 0-4.

John E. (0-3) vs. Jeff (2-1). John E. leads 12-6 and has the most playoff appearances in league history, fourteen in sixteen seasons; he has also never started 0-4, and Jeff is the market’s top-ranked roster. John E. swapped kickers Thursday morning (Spencer Shrader for Cam Little) and defenses Wednesday (Ravens for Bengals), and tried for Ollie Gordon and the Cardinals defense without success. Tyler Shough, 21.8 in his first start, plays Monday night. Jadarian Price and DJ Moore are questionable. Tony Pollard is questionable for Jeff; Drake London plays Monday.

John P. (1-2) vs. Tim (2-1). Level at 6-6. John P.’s 130.04 last week was his best score of the season and the first win of his year; Jahmyr Gibbs has scored 98.3 in three weeks, the most of any running back in the league. Tim is 2-1 having scored 255.00, thirteenth in the league — he has won two games with 92.14 and 68.30. Lamar Jackson is questionable. Quinshon Judkins plays tonight.
