One Seventy-Three

Timothy posted the fifteenth-highest score in sixteen years of Smith House football. John P. beat John E. by 3.34 on a Monday-night receiver. Three teams are 0-3, two of them for the second time ever, and history says about one in twelve of them makes the playoffs. Marcus Tally on Week 3.

Timothy scored 173.34 points, and in 3,426 team-weeks since 2010 only fourteen totals have been higher. It is the third-best game of his career — behind his 179.84 in Week 17 of 2024 and his 173.88 in Week 2 of 2022 — and it came with Bijan Robinson (35.3), Garrett Wilson (26.7), George Kittle (26.2), Matthew Golden (21.0) and a Broncos defense that added 14 on Sunday night after this newspaper had him at 150.34 with two starters left. Nick scored 106.66 against it, which would have been enough to beat seven teams this week. Instead the champion is 0-3, Timothy is 3-0 with the most points of the league’s three unbeaten teams, and a series Nick led 12-5 is 12-6.

Two other numbers belong at the top. Michael scored 149.14 — the sixth-best game of his 242 — and beat Owen by 79.32, the 28th-widest margin in league history and the widest of this season; two weeks ago he posted the second-best game of his career against the champion. And John P. beat John E. 130.04 to 126.70. Kyren Williams (21.8) and Courtland Sutton (7.6) turned a 6.26 deficit into a 23.14 lead on Sunday night; Luther Burden scored 19.8 for John E. on Monday and it was 3.34 short. The series is 11-9 John P. John E. is 0-3.

The 0-3 club

Three managers are winless: Nick, John E. and mike. For Nick and John E. it is the second time each, and both first times were 2020 — the season Anthony also started 0-3 and won the title. That year is the only one in which an 0-3 team made the playoffs at all: Anthony won it, John E. finished third. The other twenty-two 0-3 starts in league history produced zero playoff appearances and an average finish of 11th. Nick has 355.18 points, sixth in the league; his 470.98 points against are the most by 83. John E. has 325.16 points, eighth. mike has scored 141.60 and lost, 64.70 and lost, and 75.60 and lost, having started four different quarterbacks in four days — Jaxson Dart was cut Thursday morning for Drew Lock, Lock was cut Friday for C.J. Stroud, and Stroud was cut Sunday morning for Matthew Stafford, who scored 16.9.

The week

Fourteen teams scored 1,543.10 points, an average of 110.22 — up from 103.32. Two teams finished under 70: Owen at 69.82 and Anthony at 61.54, the tenth-lowest of Anthony’s 249 career games, one week after the eleventh-lowest. Anthony has followed a league-high 145.16 with 64.38 and 61.54, and made three roster moves in fifteen minutes on Sunday morning, including adding Tyreek Hill, whom he did not start. Sean beat Jeff 138.08–126.66 in the only game settled before Sunday night; Brock Purdy, making his first start after two weeks on the bench behind Caleb Williams, gave Sean 33.28 while Jeff left Sam Darnold’s 27.66 on his bench behind Josh Allen’s 13.46. Jonathan held off Kevin 99.96–92.64 after Kevin’s three night-game starters — Bo Nix 23.14, Jaylen Waddle 6.4, Dontayvion Wicks 5.2 — produced 34.74 of the 41.06 he needed.

Jonathan 99.96, Kevin 92.64. Malik Willis, acquired from John E. on Tuesday and starting for the injured Jayden Daniels, scored 10.0; Jaxon Smith-Njigba scored 35.36 for the second straight 35-point week. Jonathan is 3-0 for the fourth time and leads the series 12-4.

Power ranking

Market value, not results: 70 percent the FantasyCalc value of each roster’s best legal lineup, 30 percent the whole roster. Jeff is first despite losing — the market now prices his best lineup higher than any other — and Timothy climbs five places to second on the strength of the week. Anthony falls seven, from first to eighth, the largest drop of the season; his best-lineup value has dropped 6,327 in a week. Jonathan, 3-0, is fourth. Kevin, 2-1, is twelfth for the second straight week. John E., 0-3, is third, which is the ranking’s way of saying his problem is not the roster.
